With years of experience in the arts, both as a visual artist and educator, Esperanza offers bespoke guidance to students of all levels. Whether you’re a beginner eager to explore the world of ceramics, painting, or printing, or an experienced artist looking to refine your techniques, her sessions are tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Esperanza’s teaching philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for the creative process, encouraging experimentation, self-expression, and technical mastery. You will work in a supportive, inspiring environment, exploring materials and developing your own artistic voice under the guidance of an internationally recognised artist.

Esperanza currently offers three basic types of course

All courses are given in Esperanza’s charming studio workshop, situated off the patio of the artist’s centrally located residence near to Plaza Nueva at the foot of Alhambra.

It is in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood but note that the courses are not suitable for people with mobility problems – 40 steps lead to the house.

Weekly

One session per week of two and a half hours. Currently classes given on Monday and Wednesday evening and Tuesday morning.
Maximum of five students per class, allows Esperanza to offer sufficient attention to each student.
Students develop, with Esperanza’s guidance, their own pieces often using differing building techniques, and thus create their own individual body of work.
All materials and firings are included in the price
Classes imparted in Esperanza’s workshop situated close to Plaza Nueva in the heart of Granada.
Classes paid monthly in advance. Any class postponed by Esperanza (an unusual occurence!) would be re-scheduled by mutual agreement.
Esperanza organizes an anual exhibition of her student’s work.

Intensive

These courses are suitable for people of all levels of experience. We can design a tailor-made course for you, and your options can be all of these, or whichever you prefer:

Day 1 Hand building a utility piece (cup, vase), using slabs with different textures.
Day 2 Modelling small sculpture with special clay in pinching tecnique.
Day 3 Decoration of a given bowl with engobes using incision techniques. Biscuit firing of day 1 and 2 works.
Day 4 Tile painting with contemporary design or moorish patterns. Templates provided or use your own design to create the panel
Day 5 Glazing of works made, and setting final kiln for firing.

Of course, after prior discussion, we could adapt this schedule to concentrate on things that interest you more, for example: wheel-throwing, or mold-making.

All materials, firings and vat are included. Bibliography provided. It is recommended to remain in Granada for 2 more days for collection of final fired pieces.

Price: the fee for 2025 is 800€ (Vat included)
20% deposit required prior to the course starting.

Tile painting workshop

Esperanza’s Tile Painting Workshop has had great success among short term visitors to Granada, and is suitable as a family activity, in which both adults and children can give rein to their creative aptitudes.

The ultimate personal souvenir!

Ceramic tiles “Azulejos” have for centuries formed an essential part of Granada and Andalucia’s decorative heritage. You find them not only in the Alhambra, but in both public and private buildings throughout the region.

The artist, Esperanza Romero, will discuss possible ideas for your designs, and guide you as necessary, in the painting process. Later the same day your painted tiles will be glazed and then fired by Esperanza in her kiln.. Surprise yourself!!

You don’t need to be a Picasso, to create and then take home a lovely memento of your stay in Granada.
